Suggestion
Thirsty? Hungry?

Suggestion, as I use the technique, occurs without a true “hypnotic state”. “Waking suggestions”, as they are called, can produce strong changes in perceptual experience and voluntary action without the recipient of the suggestion being aware of the direction. The use of specific words, gestures, expressions, directed gaze, and verbal emphasis can all be used to modify another's behavior.

Would the word “thirst” flashed for 1/24th of a second during a film trailer make you go buy a large soda? While this example is more urban myth than reality, it demonstrates the ideal goal of a “waking suggestion”.
